Pua Kumbu is a treasured textile tradition of Sarawak’s Iban communities, created through generations of knowledge, artistry and skilled handweaving.
Traditionally woven by craftswomen, its intricate motifs carry cultural meaning and stories. Some designs are traditionally understood to have been received through dreams before being painstakingly translated onto the loom. Depending on the intricacy of the design, completing a Pua Kumbu textile can take weeks or even months.
The Pua Daily Bag does not reproduce the woven textile itself. Instead, its embossed motif takes inspiration from this remarkable artistic tradition and reinterprets it in durable vegan leather for modern everyday life.
